Prislop Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Silvașu de Sus, Romania
Prislop Monastery is an Orthodox complex in Silvașu de Sus, set among forested hills in Hunedoara County. The main church displays frescoes on interior and exterior walls, while outbuildings cluster around an open courtyard.
Nicodim of Tismana founded a first monastic community at this site during the 14th century. Princess Zamfira commissioned a new church in 1564 after earlier structures had fallen into ruin.
The site hosts monks who follow Orthodox practice and welcome visitors seeking prayer or reflection. Many faithful light candles or attend liturgy chanted in Romanian, continuing traditions passed down through centuries.
The complex opens daily and offers parking near the entrance. Paths within the courtyard are mostly level, while the cemetery area lies slightly apart and requires a short walk.
The cemetery holds the grave of Father Arsenie Boca, an Orthodox cleric who lived during the 20th century. Pilgrims leave handwritten notes with prayers and thanks at his resting place.
