Calea Moșilor, Historic thoroughfare in central Bucharest, Romania
Calea Moșilor is a historic street in Bucharest that runs from the Cocor Shopping Mall near Piața Unirii to Obor Market. It displays multiple architectural styles with older structures standing alongside modern residential complexes built in the late 1900s.
The first paved version of this street was completed in the 1820s, replacing wooden pathways from medieval Bucharest. In the latter half of the 1900s, a major portion of older buildings was replaced by new residential blocks.
The street takes its name from the moșori, craftsmen millers whose mills once defined this area. Today, the building facades and street width reflect the importance this trade held in the city's past.
The street is served by several public transportation options, including tram line 21 and trolleybus route 66, making it easy to access different sections. Comfortable walking shoes and time for breaks are recommended if exploring the entire length.
The street was originally called Podul Târgului din Afară, meaning market bridge beyond the gates, referring to an important trading crossing outside the old city limits. Twice weekly merchants and goods converged there, making it a busy commercial hub.
