St. Silvester Church, Orthodox church in Moșilor district, Bucharest, Romania
St. Silvester Church is an Orthodox church building in the Moșilor district made of stone with a length of about 30 meters and a width of about 14 meters. The structure has twin spires above the entrance hall and a central dome rising over the main prayer space.
The original church was founded before 1743 by Župan Pârvu and his wife Stanca. The building underwent major repairs following earthquakes that struck in 1802 and 1838.
The interior displays painted columns with floral patterns, gilt capitals, and decorated tile stoves with religious scenes throughout the space. These ornaments show the craftsmanship that went into every corner of the church.
The church is located at 36 Silvestru Street and can be entered through its main doors, with a separate bell tower from 1879 also open to visitors. The site fits well into walking tours of the neighborhood since it sits among residential buildings in a central area.
In 2002, the church received relics of Saint Sylvester as a gift from the Vatican, presented by Patriarch Teoctist. This gift connects the building in an unexpected way to Rome and early Christian tradition.
