Magna Curia is a palace in Deva combining Renaissance and Baroque features, including rectangular windows and carved stone decorations across its facade. The building operates today as a museum with archaeological collections displayed in exhibition halls inside.
The palace was founded in 1582 by Ferenc Geszty and received major alterations under Gabriel Bethlen in 1621. These changes shaped its appearance today.
The building houses exhibitions about the region's ancient past, where visitors can see objects from different periods displayed together. The collections show how cultures overlapped and influenced each other over time.
The entrance is located in central Deva on Boulevard 1 Decembrie 1918 at number 39 and is easy to reach. Visitors should plan time to explore the multiple rooms and exhibition halls inside.
Excavations in 2012 uncovered remains of the prehistoric Coțofeni culture beneath the palace, including pottery fragments and ancient tools. These findings reveal that the site was inhabited in ancient times.
