Rânca, Mountain ski resort in Gorj County, Romania.
Rânca is a ski resort in the Parâng Mountains at approximately 1,600 meters elevation with several slopes of varying difficulty. The terrain spans about 3.4 kilometers of runs served by multiple ski lifts.
The area developed as a winter sports destination following improvements to the Transalpina road that enhanced accessibility. This mountain highway expansion opened the region to tourism and recreational activity.
The site hosts an annual mountain hill climb event each September that uses the winding Transalpina road as a racing course. This motorsport gathering draws participants and spectators to the surrounding peaks and valleys.
The resort operates from 9:00 to 17:00 and provides equipment rental and professional instruction during the season. Check weather conditions beforehand and dress warmly, as the high elevation can bring sudden weather changes.
On clear days, visitors can spot both Parângu Mare peak and the distant Peleaga peak of the Retezat Mountains from the slopes. This dual mountain view becomes especially rewarding when visibility is at its best.
