Plăviceni Monastery

Pläviceni Monastery is an Orthodox religious complex in Dudu, Teleorman County, centered around the Saint Michael Archangel Church with attached residential cells and defensive walls. A bell tower marks the southwestern boundary of the enclosed site.

The voivode Dragomir Dobromirescul funded construction of the stone monastery in 1648, building it above an existing wooden church from the 16th century. This means the site has deeper roots than the surviving structure suggests.

The monastery displays intricate carved stone details at its entrance portal, reflecting traditional wooden sculpture techniques found in Romanian religious buildings. These decorative elements shape how the place looks and feels.

The monastery sits roughly 33 kilometers northwest of Turnu Măgurele and 30 kilometers south of Drăgănești-Olt near the Olt River meadow. The riverside location helps orient visitors and provides context for the site's position in the region.

Three burial crypts in the pronaos section likely hold the remains of those who founded the monastery, offering tangible links to its earliest days. These underground chambers speak to how important the place was to its original community.
