Castra Jidava

Castra Jidava is a Roman fortress near the mountain pass, featuring stone walls that have endured for many centuries. The site contains visible remains of internal structures and an ancient heating system that has been preserved and protected for visitors to see.

The fortress was built in the early decades of the 3rd century and was part of a larger defense system along the Danube border. It served as an important outpost in this strategically significant region for an extended period.

A Roman military unit was stationed here to monitor passage through the mountain region and control access to important routes. Visitors can understand how this location served to protect trade and secure the frontier.

The site is open to visitors and managed by a local museum that provides information on location. Wear comfortable shoes since the ground is uneven and care must be taken around the preserved structures.

Archaeological excavations uncovered many objects from the late Roman period, including inscriptions and coins from different eras. These artifacts offer a direct look at the daily lives and needs of soldiers stationed at this remote outpost.
