Mausoleum of Mateiaș

The Mausoleum of Mateiaș is a limestone memorial on a hilltop in Valea Mare Pravăț built with a horizontal vault and a vertical tower featuring a spiral staircase. The tower leads to a pavilion at the top that offers views across the surrounding area.

The memorial commemorates fighting in autumn 1916 when soldiers battled foreign invaders defending a strategic mountain position. The battle held major significance for controlling important mountain passes in the area.
