Nechit Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Borlesti Commune, Romania.
Nechit Monastery is an Orthodox monastery located in Borlești Commune, in Neamț County, Romania. The stone church has two towers and a clover-shaped floor plan, a form common in traditional Moldavian church architecture.
In the 14th century, a monk named Nechit built a wooden church on this site, giving the monastery its name. The wooden structure was replaced in 1875 by the current stone church, which still stands today.
The church interior is covered with neobyzantine frescoes showing saints and religious scenes on nearly every wall. The carved wooden iconostasis that separates the altar from the nave is the most visually striking element inside.
The monastery is in Neamț County and is easiest to reach by private vehicle. It is a good idea to contact the monastery before visiting, as access to the grounds may need to be arranged in advance.
The monastery grounds include a small animal area where rabbits, chickens, and peacocks move freely among the visitors. This corner of the property often surprises people who come expecting only a church and gardens.
