Văcărești Nature Park

Văcărești Nature Park is a nature reserve with expansive water surfaces, reed beds, and open meadows. The park features marked walking paths and observation towers from which visitors can view the different habitats.

The site was originally an abandoned dam construction project from the 1980s that nature gradually reclaimed after work stopped. From this incomplete structure, an ecosystem developed that is now worth protecting.

Birdwatchers come here to spot herons, ducks, and rare migrating species that inhabit the reed zones. The place is known locally as a green refuge where people escape the city to observe wildlife.

The paths are easily walkable and pass through different zones, with observation stations positioned at strategic spots. It is best to visit in early morning or late afternoon hours, when wildlife is most active.

The park emerged unexpectedly from concrete walls of an unfinished dam that now serve as natural boundaries of the wetland. This unexpected partnership between human infrastructure and nature makes the place special.
