Turbăria Lăptici, Nature reserve in Dâmbovița County, Romania
Turbaria Laptici is a nature reserve located in the Bucegi Mountains at approximately 1,500 meters (4,920 feet) elevation, covering about 15 hectares of protected peatland. The reserve sits near Lake Bolboci and consists of wetland habitat with specialized plant communities adapted to mountain conditions.
The reserve received official protection status in 2000 through National Law No. 5, recognizing its importance for conservation. This legal designation has enabled the preservation of the delicate ecosystem and ongoing scientific study.
The peatland draws researchers interested in studying specialized mountain vegetation and diverse moss species found in this environment. Visitors can observe how rare plants have adapted to thrive in this sensitive ecosystem.
Wear sturdy hiking boots and waterproof clothing, as the terrain is wet and mountain weather can change quickly. The best time to visit is during warmer months when trails are drier and more accessible.
The peatland harbors rare alpine plants such as butterwort and specialized willow species adapted to wet conditions. These plants are found in few other places within this mountain region.
