Omu Peak, Mountain summit in Bucegi Mountains, Romania
Omu Peak is a mountain summit in the Bucegi range standing at 2,508 meters (8,230 feet) and positioned at the border of three Romanian counties: Brașov, Dâmbovița, and Prahova. The top features a flat, broad plateau with a stone shelter that provides lodging and food service to climbers.
The first shelter on the summit was built in 1888 by the Transylvanian Carpathian Society as a wooden structure. Over time it was rebuilt into a combined stone and wood construction to provide better protection for climbers.
The shelter at the summit serves as a meeting place where mountaineers and researchers gather to observe the landscape and study the Carpathian environment. Visitors often stop here to rest and chat with others who have made the climb.
The shelter accommodates about 30 visitors and has a food service area, but operates without electricity or running water. Come prepared with warm clothing and expect basic conditions at this high altitude location.
Measurements of Omu Peak's elevation vary between 2,505 and 2,514 meters depending on where it is recorded, because the summit top is covered with flat rock rather than a single peak point. This makes it impossible to pinpoint one exact highest spot.
