Cernica monastery

Cernica monastery is a monastic complex with neoclassical brick architecture situated on a peninsula surrounded by lakes. The compound contains three churches and three chapels that form the core of the religious site.

The monastery was founded in 1608 by a nobleman and his wife, and underwent several phases of expansion over the following centuries. It developed into a major spiritual and cultural center that shaped the region's Orthodox Church history.

The monastery served for centuries as a key center for training Orthodox priests and monks from the surrounding region. Its name reflects the founding family, and it remains a place where religious traditions are lived and passed on daily.

The monastery is located roughly 15 kilometers from Bucharest and welcomes visitors on most days. Comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended, as the grounds are extensive and there is much to explore.

A large oak tree planted at the time of the monastery's foundation still stands on the grounds today. This tree is over four centuries old and serves as a living reminder of the site's early years.
