Biserica Fundenii Doamnei

Igreja Fundenii Doamnei is an Orthodox church with a three-lobed floor plan and a bell tower above the narthex, supported by stone columns. The entrance is marked by an ornate porch that leads into the interior space.

Michael Cantacuzino commissioned construction in 1699, and major restoration work followed in the 1800s under different supervision. The structure reflects an era when powerful families invested significantly in religious architecture.

The interior walls display frescoes with Persian influence from the early 1700s, created by Parvu Mutu's workshop and showing religious scenes mixed with floral patterns. This decoration reflects the taste of the wealthy family who commissioned the building.

The building sits along Fundeni Road and is open to visitors during prayer times. Respectful clothing is expected, and you should be mindful of worshippers during active religious gatherings.

The facade features Persian-style stucco decorations showing tables with flowers and citrus branches, standing out from typical Romanian church architecture. Such exotic ornaments were uncommon in Eastern Europe during this period.
