Alexandru Papiu Ilarian college

Alexandru Papiu Ilarian College is a U-shaped building that houses many classrooms and educational spaces across multiple floors. The structure contains all necessary rooms for secondary school operations and accommodates hundreds of students daily.

Construction of the building began in 1912 as a Catholic girls' high school serving the local community. During World War I, it was converted into a military hospital, reflecting the wider upheaval of that era.

The school reflects local language diversity by offering classes in both Romanian and Hungarian. This bilingual approach shapes daily school life and brings together students from different backgrounds.

The building sits on Bernády György Square in the city center and is easy to reach on foot. The entrance is visible from the main street, making it simple for visitors to locate and view the exterior.

A bronze bust of the school's namesake stands at the entrance, created in 1930 by a prominent sculptor. The sculpture was moved away during World War II but later returned to its original location.
