Tinovul Poiana Stampei, Nature reserve in Suceava County, Romania.
Tinovul Poiana Stampei is a nature reserve in Suceava County with an 800 meter wooden boardwalk crossing a peat bog. The trail winds through a forest of pine trees, mosses, ferns, and cranberry shrubs in a wet landscape.
The reserve gained international designation in 2011 when it was recognized as a wetland and received protected status. This recognition led to increased conservation efforts to maintain the peat bog ecosystem.
Information panels along the boardwalk explain how the peat bog formed and showcase the specialized plants and animals adapted to this environment. These signs help visitors understand the ecological relationships that make this place distinctive.
The boardwalk entrance is near the Dornișoara forestry road and the complete circuit takes about an hour and a half to walk. Access is available year-round with no entrance fee required.
The nutrient-poor soil forces pine trees to grow slowly, so trees of different ages end up with similar trunk widths of 20 to 22 centimeters. This unusual growth pattern reveals how plants have adapted to the harsh conditions of the peat bog.
