Sulina Lighthouse

Sulina Lighthouse is a round concrete tower measuring 48 meters high with two observation levels and a red-painted lantern at the Danube's mouth. The structure guides vessels through these navigable waters with rotating light signals.

The current lighthouse was completed in 1983, replacing earlier structures that occupied the site since 1856. This modern version was built to support increasing maritime traffic in the Black Sea region.

The lighthouse contains a small maritime museum displaying navigation history and local seafaring traditions of the Danube Delta. Visitors can explore the connection between the waterway and the people who have worked these waters for generations.

Access to the lighthouse is only by boat from the town of Sulina, so visitors need to arrange boat transportation. Weather and water conditions can affect accessibility, so checking conditions before traveling is advisable.

The lighthouse stands on a triangular artificial island near the south breakwater, making it a striking landmark in the vast Danube Delta landscape. This isolated location gives the structure a unique presence in the wetland environment.
