Valjevo

Valjevo is a city in the Kolubara region centered on its river, located roughly 90 kilometers southwest of Belgrade. The downtown area spreads across steep hillsides with narrow lanes connecting different levels, where older buildings sit alongside newer structures.

The city first appeared in written records in 1393 and became an important trading hub between Bosnia and the north during Ottoman rule. This strategic location shaped its growth for centuries afterward.

The city maintains deep roots in traditional crafts, particularly pottery and textile work that have been passed down through families for centuries. Walking through older neighborhoods, you can still observe how local artisans preserve these skills as part of daily life.

Daily trains connect the city to Belgrade with a journey of about 90 minutes, with multiple departures each way. Walking is the best way to explore downtown and the riverside areas at your own pace.

The Tesnjar neighborhood preserves its 19th-century architecture and serves as a regular filming location for historical productions. Its unchanged streets and buildings make it a genuine snapshot of Serbian town life from that era.
