Kula Nenadovića, Military tower in Valjevo, Serbia.
Kula Nenadovića is a four-story stone tower in Valjevo built with brick vaults and rising about 17.5 meters high. The tower has nearly square proportions of roughly 9.8 meters per side and displays construction methods from the early 1800s.
The structure was built in 1813 under the direction of Minister Jakov Nenadović and his son Jefrem. It then served as ammunition storage until the end of the 1800s.
The name honors the Nenadović family, who played a key role in local affairs. Visitors can see memorial plaques on the walls today that mark this connection.
The tower today functions as a museum with exhibitions about Valjevo and the Serbian independence movement. Visitors should be aware that the internal stairs are steep and space is limited inside.
Between 1813 and 1815, Ottoman forces used the structure as a prison. Vojvoda Sima Nenadović eventually ordered its destruction during Valjevo's liberation.
