Studentski Grad, Student residential complex in New Belgrade, Serbia
Studentski Grad is a student residential complex in New Belgrade, Serbia, made up of four buildings ranging from six to seven stories, with room types from single to five-bed configurations. The buildings are arranged across a large site that also includes shared facilities for everyday use.
The complex was planned in 1949 and its first buildings went up between 1952 and 1955 as part of Belgrade's postwar reconstruction. Major renovation work followed in the 1980s and 1990s, bringing the structures closer to their current form.
The complex has a library, a cinema, and shared spaces that students use throughout the day and into the evening. These spaces give the place the feel of a small self-contained neighborhood rather than just a place to sleep.
The complex is located at Tosin Bunar 143 in New Belgrade and is served by several bus lines connecting it to central Belgrade. It is easiest to visit during the day when the campus is active and shared facilities are open.
In 2022, an international architectural competition was won by a Turkish design team to expand the site with a new building for around 1,000 more students. This makes it one of the few student residences in Serbia to be shaped by an open international design process.
