Vujan

Vujan is a mountain in central Serbia with a main peak reaching 856 meters above sea level, surrounded by dense forests of beech and oak trees. The mountain is also home to Vujan Monastery at its base, which serves as an important religious site in the region.

The name Vujan comes from old Slavic words describing the sound of wind flowing through the dense woods on the slopes. The mountain's role as a religious site grew stronger with the establishment of Vujan Monastery, which has held spiritual importance for many generations.

The wooden cross at Vujan Monastery was hand-crafted by Serbian Patriarch Pavle during his years living here, and it remains an important object for visitors who come to the site. The monastery at the mountain's base draws people seeking both spiritual contemplation and connection to this religious landmark.

The mountain can be reached through a marked hiking trail that starts near Gornji Milanovac and spans about 15 kilometers. Visitors should plan for a full day trip and wear appropriate footwear, as the path passes through uneven terrain.

The Despotovica River cuts through a gorge along the mountain's slopes, creating a striking natural landscape that many visitors overlook. This water-carved feature adds a dramatic element to the forested surroundings.
