Ardatov, town in Russia
Ardatov is a town in the Republic of Mordovia positioned on a high bank above the Alatyr River. Narrow streets run alongside brick and wooden buildings, while a central plaza serves as a gathering place for residents.
Ardatov was first documented in 1671 as a village with a Mordovian name. After a church was built in 1688, the settlement became known as Novotroitskoye and later received city status in 1780.
Ardatov's name comes from a Mordovian settler and reflects the blend of Mordovian and Russian traditions in the community. The streets and buildings carry this dual heritage, and local celebrations still feature traditional costumes and folk music.
The town is roughly 100 kilometers from Saransk and accessible via well-maintained roads connecting to other settlements in the region. Residents rely mainly on walking, bicycles, and buses for getting around.
Sculptor S.F. Erzya came from the nearby village of Baevo and created works in stone and metal that brought recognition to the region. Residents take pride in this famous native son whose artistic legacy continues to resonate.
