Green Bridge

The Green Bridge is a road crossing over the Moyka River that connects the Nevsky Prospect with adjacent areas and measures about 40 meters in length. It features green metal construction with cast iron arches and is decorated with golden candelabras that give the structure a gleaming appearance.

The original wooden drawbridge was built in 1716, but was replaced in 1806 with an innovative cast iron design that set standards for transport bridges of that era. This metal version influenced the development of many similar bridges across Saint Petersburg and beyond.

The bridge takes its name from the green color of its metal structure, which stands out distinctly among the city's other crossings. Visitors notice the elegant golden candelabras set along the railings, giving the crossing a ceremonial quality that reflects the grandeur of nearby palaces.

The bridge sits directly on Nevsky Prospect and is easy to reach on foot since it forms an important traffic junction. The nearby flat riverbank allows you to view the river from below and discover different perspectives of the structure.

The bridge underwent major restoration in 2019 and 2020, preserving its historical form while enabling modern traffic safety. This renovation demonstrated how historic infrastructure can be maintained and made functional for contemporary city life.
