Buynaksky District

Buynaksky District spans across 1,842 square kilometers in central Dagestan, reaching elevations of 2,713 meters within the Greater Caucasus Mountains range.

The district emerged in 1923 as an administrative territory during the formation of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, which continued until December 1991.

The district encompasses nine selsoviets with thirty rural localities where multiple ethnic groups maintain traditional practices, languages, and customs specific to the Caucasus region.

Visitors access the district through the city of Buynaksk, which functions as the administrative center while remaining separate from the district's jurisdiction.

The population density of 40 people per square kilometer has increased steadily since 1989, with all residents distributed across rural settlements.
