Buynaksky District, Municipal district in Dagestan, Russia.
Buynaksky District is a municipal territory in central Dagestan comprising ten rural communities spread across rolling hills and mountain elevations. The landscape consists mainly of scattered villages interspersed with forest and open countryside.
The district was established in 1923 during the formation of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. It remained an administrative unit for over seven decades until the Soviet system ended in 1991.
The area reflects Caucasian traditions that remain visible in daily village life across the district. People speak different languages and practice customs passed down through generations within their communities.
Visitors reach the area through the city of Buynaksk, which serves as the administrative hub while being administratively separate from the district itself. The rural areas are easiest to access during warmer months when mountain roads are passable.
The district contains only rural settlements with no significant urban centers within its own territory. This completely decentralized structure makes it a uniquely rural region that has remained largely unaltered by external development.
