Kemsky District, Administrative district in Republic of Karelia, Russia.
Kemsky District is an administrative region in the northeast of the Republic of Karelia, centered on the town of Kem. It encompasses multiple rural settlements and one urban area that serve as the main administrative hub for the territory.
The district was formed from the earlier Kemsky Uyezd, which had existed during the Russian Empire period. Modern boundaries took shape following administrative reforms in the 1920s that restructured the older governing system.
The district incorporates one urban settlement centered in Kem and three rural settlements, representing different population groups across the territory.
Visitors will find a sparsely populated region spread across a wide area with several smaller communities scattered throughout. Access is easiest through the main town of Kem, which serves as the entry point for exploring the surrounding settlements.
The territory is home to the Kuzova Archipelago, a chain of islands in the White Sea with protected natural areas. These islands represent lesser-known coastal treasures along northern Russia's shore.
