Spartak, Metro station in Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo District, Russia.
Spartak is a metro station on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line in the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo district of Moscow. It is a shallow column station with a single island platform flanked by two tracks, built directly beneath the former Tushino airfield.
Construction began in the 1970s but was suspended for decades, leaving an unfinished shell visible to passing trains. The station finally opened in 2014 to serve the new stadium built in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The station's name comes from the football club whose stadium stands just outside the exit. On match days, fans in red and white fill the platforms, turning the station into something closer to an extension of the arena than a regular stop.
The station has a single entrance that opens directly toward the stadium area, so orientation is straightforward once you exit. On event days the exits can become very crowded, so arriving early makes the journey more comfortable.
For nearly 4 decades, passengers on passing trains could see the bare concrete shell of the station through their windows, as trains never stopped there. This made it one of the longest-running unfinished metro stations anywhere in the world.
