Tikhvin Cemetery, Historic cemetery at Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Saint Petersburg, Russia

The Tikhvin Cemetery contains over 1,300 monuments, ranging from simple gravestones to elaborate sarcophagi within its central Saint Petersburg location.

Established in 1823 to address overcrowding at Lazarevskoe Cemetery, this burial ground transformed into a museum necropolis during the Soviet period.

The cemetery holds the remains of Russian composers Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov, along with writer Fyodor Dostoevsky and other notable figures.

Located near Ploshchad Alexandra Nevskovo metro station, the cemetery welcomes visitors from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM for guided tours and individual visits.

During the 872-day siege of Leningrad in World War II, only one gravestone in the entire cemetery sustained damage.
