Peterhof Grand Palace, Baroque palace in Petergof, Russia

Peterhof Grand Palace stretches along a terrace for almost 300 meters, linking the Upper Garden to the Lower Park. The structure features multiple ornate wings and halls filled with paintings, sculptures, and gilded details throughout.

Peter the Great started construction of a two-story palace in 1715, which Elizabeth I later transformed through architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli between 1745 and 1755. This redesign turned the building into a Baroque masterpiece of monumental scale.

The Throne Room displays ornate stucco and paintings celebrating Catherine II's reign through classical design. Visitors can see how this splendor was meant to reflect Russian power and prestige.

The palace opens daily except Mondays from April through October, with guided tours available in multiple languages for interior visits. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as there are many halls to explore and stairs connecting the floors.

The Oak Study of Peter the Great remains preserved within the newer palace structure with its original Dutch wooden panels and period furnishings. This intimate room offers contrast to the lavish opulence of the surrounding halls.
