Plesetsky District, Administrative district in Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia
Plesetsky District is an administrative area in western Arkhangelsk Oblast, characterized by forests, rivers, and lakes spread across a vast expanse. Small villages and settlements dot the region, serving as the main centers of local activity and residence.
The district was established in 1929 as part of the Northern Krai and took its current form through administrative reforms in 1937. These reorganizations connected it permanently to Arkhangelsk Oblast.
The district maintains fourteen registered federal cultural heritage sites, including traditional wooden churches and chapels that represent regional architectural traditions.
The area can be reached via the Northern Railway and road connections linking it to Kargopol and main routes toward Moscow. Infrastructure exists for travel to the region, though planning ahead is advisable given the sparse population and vast distances.
The district contains substantial bauxite deposits near Severoonezhsk, which support regional mineral extraction activities. A cement manufacturing facility in Savinsky provides industrial employment and shapes the economic character of that area.
