Twelve Collegia, Historic university building in Vasilievsky Island, Russia
The Twelve Collegia building extends for 400 meters along Mendeleevskaya Line, featuring twelve identical three-story sections with prominent forward-projecting central parts.
Started in 1722 under architect Domenico Trezzini's direction, the building served as headquarters for Peter the Great's government departments until the early 19th century.
The Petrovsky Hall, with its preserved dual-height ceiling and decorations by Rossi brothers from 1735, hosts Saint Petersburg University ceremonial events.
The main entrance to Saint Petersburg State University's central building opens from University Embankment, near the Mendeleevskaya metro station.
The building stands perpendicular to the Neva River rather than parallel, following an urban planning dispute between Peter the Great and Menshikov.
