Smolensk Ring, race track in Russia
Smolensk Ring is a motorsport racing track in western Russia, located near the town of Safonovo. The circuit combines fast straights, flowing corners, and tight technical sections, all laid out on smooth asphalt.
Construction of the circuit started in 2007 and it opened officially in July 2010. The first major event held there was a round of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, just weeks after the opening.
The name references the nearby city of Smolensk in western Russia. On race days, drivers and spectators often know each other by name, giving the place the feel of a close-knit motorsport community rather than a large anonymous venue.
The track is easy to reach from Safonovo by road, and parking is available on site for visitors. Race events tend to happen on weekends, so arriving early in the day gives you more time to find a comfortable spot to watch.
The circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke, the German architect who shaped many Formula 1 venues around the world. What stands out is how his design follows the natural contours of the land rather than reshaping it, giving the track a feel that sets it apart from more engineered layouts.
