Volochaevsky Memorial, Regional cultural heritage monument in Volochayevka-1, Russia.
The Volochaevsky Memorial is a war memorial in Volochayevka-1, a small village in the Smidovichsky District of the Russian Far East. It consists of a central monument with sculptures, reliefs and inscriptions set across an open outdoor site.
The memorial was built in 1928, a few years after the fighting along the Khabarovsk corridor, where the Red Army defeated White Guard forces in February 1922. That victory was one of the last major turning points of the Russian Civil War in the Far East.
The memorial marks the spot where fighting took place in February 1922 and displays reliefs and inscriptions honoring Red Army soldiers. People from across the region come here to pay their respects and remember those who died.
The memorial stands at the edge of Volochayevka-1 and is easy to spot when driving along the village's main road. The ground around the site is flat and free of obstacles, making it comfortable to walk around.
A small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands right next to the memorial, with no direct connection to the Soviet commemorative concept behind it. The two structures sit so close together that many visitors are surprised to find both in a single location.
