Державний літературний музей «20 століття», Literary museum in downtown Saint Petersburg, Russia
The State Literary Museum of the 20th Century occupies a compact apartment in central Saint Petersburg, displaying letters, manuscripts, and objects from writers' lives. The collection documents Russian literary history through original sources that illuminate both the creative output and personal world of these authors.
The institution was established in 1988 and became independently run in 1993. It occupies the final residence of writer Mikhail Zoshchenko, who lived there from 1954 until 1958.
The museum's focus on 20th century Russian literature reflects how writers shaped the cultural life of Saint Petersburg during a transformative era. Walking through the rooms, you sense the creative environment where these authors worked and the social circles they inhabited.
The museum is located on Malaya Konyushennaya Street and can be reached by elevator or stairs. Entry requires ringing through an intercom system at the building entrance before you can access the space.
The museum preserves Zoshchenko's original study furnishings, making it the smallest memorial apartment museum in the city. These original pieces give visitors an immediate sense of how the writer arranged his workspace.
