Dunayskaya, Metro station in Frunzensky District, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Dunayskaya is a metro station in the southern part of Saint Petersburg, serving Line 5, the Frunzensko-Primorskaya Line. It has two side platforms separated by blue glass columns, with polished stone surfaces and stained glass windows running along the length of the interior.
The station opened on 3 October 2019 as a southern extension of the line from Mezhdunarodnaya, the previous terminus. It gave access to new neighborhoods that were developing in that part of the city at the time.
The station's name refers to the Danube River, and this theme is woven into the interior through stained glass windows depicting cities that sit along the river. The marble benches and wall surfaces continue the water motif, making the theme part of the everyday experience of passing through.
The station has two separate entrance lobbies, each connecting to bus and tram stops nearby. It is worth checking which exit is closest to your intended stop before you leave the platform.
The station was built using a top-down construction method, meaning the structure was built from the surface downward rather than the usual way. This was the first time this technique had been used anywhere in the Saint Petersburg metro network.
