Люберецкая станция аэрации, Water treatment facility in Nekrasovka district, Moscow, Russia
Lyuberetskaya Aeration Station is a wastewater treatment facility in the Nekrasovka district that processes sewage from Moscow and neighboring municipalities daily. The plant uses multiple treatment stages to clean the water before it returns to local waterways.
The station began operating in 1963, replacing older irrigation fields near Lyubertsy. Several expansions over the following decades increased its capacity to keep pace with Moscow's growth.
The water treatment plant organizes public open days to educate Moscow residents about water purification processes and environmental protection.
The facility is best reached by public transport or car from central Moscow and sits in an industrial zone away from residential areas. Access is limited and guided tours are available only during special open days organized by the facility.
Treated water is discharged through a long channel into the Moskva River, with a portion receiving special UV disinfection before flowing into the Pekhorka River. This two-path discharge system reflects how different local water systems are factored into the treatment approach.
