Marinkina Tower is a brick defense structure standing 31 meters tall with an 11-meter diameter, positioned at a corner of Kolomna Kremlin. The tower forms part of the fortress wall system and sits where two streets intersect within the historic complex.
History
Construction took place in 1525 under architect Aleviz Novyi as a key defense point against southern raids on Russian territory. The structure played an essential role in protecting the region during its early fortified period.
Culture
The tower's name comes from Marina Mnishek, the wife of False Dmitry, who was held prisoner inside during 1614. As you walk through the Kremlin today, this historical event shapes how locals and visitors understand this particular fortification.
