Church of Archangel Michael

The Church of Archangel Michael is a place of worship featuring a rectangular layout with four columns on its front facade and a large rotunda capped by a semicircular dome. The structure rises west of Kolomna Kremlin and defines the cityscape through its classical proportions.

The building was erected in 1700 to replace a wooden predecessor on the site. A major reshaping came in 1828 when a Moscow architect completely redesigned the facade in the classical style.

Religious artworks line the church walls, including a Palekh iconostasis gifted by the Metropolitan of Kolomna after renovation. Visitors encounter these handcrafted pieces when entering the interior.

The church sits at 71 Grazhdanskaya Street near the Skating Center tram stop, accessible on foot from the western part of the city. Regular services take place throughout the year, so plan your visit accordingly.

The building resembles a grand mansion more than a typical Russian Orthodox church with its familiar onion domes. This unexpected classical design becomes a pleasant surprise for visitors expecting traditional church architecture.
