The Goncharov Memorial Gazebo features eight Doric columns supporting a dome with a central four-sided obelisk containing memorial plaques and relief portraits.
Construction of the memorial began on June 18, 1912, marking the centenary of Ivan Goncharov's birth, initiated by Ekaterina Percy-French and designed by architect Alexei Shode.
The memorial stands as a dedication to Ivan Goncharov, the celebrated Russian writer who spent his childhood in Ulyanovsk and contributed to Russian literature.
Visitors can access the memorial structure during daylight hours and combine their visit with the nearby Goncharov House Museum at 20 Goncharova Street.
The gazebo underwent relocation in 1960 due to Volga riverbank erosion and received a complete reconstruction in white marble for Goncharov's bicentenary in 2008.
