Neberdzhayevskoye Vodokhranilishche, reservoir in Russia
Neberdzhayevskoye Vodokhranilishche is a large reservoir near Novorossiysk built on the Lipki River to supply water to the city. The earth dam stands about 27 meters (89 feet) high, stretches over 200 meters (656 feet), and holds water that fills from rainfall and local runoff in the surrounding area.
Construction began in 1954 during the Soviet era to support the rapidly growing city and its industries. The dam was designed to control floods and ensure reliable water supply, representing an engineering effort to manage natural resources for urban needs.
The area is easily accessible from Novorossiysk via local roads but offers limited facilities beyond basic access and walking paths. Water levels fluctuate with seasonal rainfall, so timing your visit during drier months may provide better ground conditions around the shoreline.
When heavy rains occur, a buried spillway system carved into the ground activates to safely redirect excess water away from the dam structure. Locals recognize this engineering feature as critical protection against flooding downstream in the city.
