Monument to Lenin at the entrance of the Volga-Don canal, Soviet monument at the Volga-Don Canal, Russia

This monument is an oversized concrete statue standing at the southern entrance of the Volga-Don Canal near Volgograd. The figure rises above a solid base positioned next to the canal's main lock and navigation lighthouse.

This statue was completed in 1973 and replaced an earlier monument at the same location. Since then it has remained a landmark of the canal complex and the surrounding region.

The statue embodies how a specific era chose to honor its leaders through monumental public art. Visitors can experience how such large figures shape the way people view a landscape and its meaning.

The site is easy to reach via the Krasnoarmeiskaya waterfront area, where the canal's first lock is also visible. The best views of the statue come from the surrounding canal zone, which is open and accessible to visitors on foot.

The statue was built using construction methods similar to the Mother Russia monument also in Volgograd, but expressing a completely different artistic vision. This technical connection between the two works reveals how the same engineering approach served different artistic purposes in the same city.
