Penza Children's railway, railway line in Russia
Penza Children's railway is a narrow-gauge line located on the outskirts of the city in a wooded green area near Sossnova. The line has two stations and a loop section, where small colorful trains run along a route just over one and a half kilometers long.
The railway was founded in 1985 as a place for children to learn about rail operations and receive training in railway professions. Over the decades, it has become an integral part of the city, with ongoing restoration efforts to maintain its educational mission.
The railway introduces children to the role of trains in local life and helps them understand how transportation shapes communities. Young visitors learn responsibility and develop respect for rail operations through hands-on experience.
Train rides last about 25 minutes and operate mainly from May through August, extending into September when weather permits. Tickets are sold only at Pionerskaja station, and visiting on weekdays is recommended since weekends tend to be busier.
The locomotives here are working machines, including one named Sura and an older model ТУ2-195, both lending an authentic feel to the experience. School groups train on the line year-round, but regular visitors can only ride during summer months, making a visit special.
