Center of Theatrical Arts «House of Meyerhold»

The Center of Theatrical Arts House of Meyerhold is a museum and theater venue in Penza occupying a 19th-century mansion. The complex displays exhibition areas alongside a working performance space, where both historical documents and theatrical productions share the same building.

The building was constructed in 1881 as a private merchant's residence and served that purpose through the early 20th century. Its transformation into a cultural center honoring director Vsevolod Meyerhold occurred in 1984, dedicating the space to his groundbreaking contributions to modern theater.

The building carries the imprint of the Meyerhold family and shows where one of Russia's most influential theater directors had his roots. Walking through the rooms, you sense how a wealthy merchant family of that era lived and shaped cultural life around them.
