Памятник экипажу буксирного парохода «Комсомолец»

The monument features a ship's wheelhouse base with an admiralty anchor and commemorative plaque listing the names of the fallen crew members. The structure stands in Victory Park on Saprygina Street and conveys the maritime traditions of the northern region.

The memorial honors the crew of tugboat Komsomolets and other vessels sunk by German submarine U-209 in the Barents Sea on August 17, 1942. This event counts among the tragic losses during the war in the Arctic.

The monument represents the maritime heritage of Naryan-Mar and serves as a gathering place for ceremonies honoring seafaring and Arctic expedition veterans.

The memorial is located in Victory Park and easily accessible via Saprygina Street. Information panels on site explain the regional maritime history and help visitors understand the historical context.

Of the 328 people aboard the convoy vessels attacked by U-209, only 23 survived, including crew member Lazar Khozyainov. He later attended the memorial's inauguration and personally witnessed the history of Arctic warfare.
