Rila Fortress

Rila Fortress is a medieval fortification in Rylsk that rises on a hillside overlooking the Seim River. Stone walls and watchtowers spread across the elevated terrain to form a connected defensive system.

The fortress was built in the 12th century as a key defense post for the Novgorod-Seversky principality. Its location helped it resist multiple invasions and made it a major stronghold in the medieval border defenses of the region.
