Yasny Pond, reservoir in Russia
Yasny Pond is a small water body in northeastern Moscow's South Medvedkovo district with an oval shape covering about six to eight hectares. The basin is surrounded by concrete embankments with reinforced vertical walls, while grass slopes planted with native species including rushes line the banks, and fish such as carp, rudd, and perch inhabit the waters.
The pond was created by damming the nearby Chermyanka river, an action taken long ago to hold water for the area. In 2005, the entire basin was drained, the bottom cleaned, and repairs carried out, while in 2017 authorities drained it again and restored the shores with new trees, shrubs, and flowers.
The pond takes its name from the nearby Yasny Proezd street and serves as a place for everyday relaxation for local residents. People use the space for walking, sitting on benches, and watching the water, particularly in the evenings as the sun sets.
The pond sits between houses numbered one and five along Yasny Proezd street, northwest of the intersection with Dezhneva Street, featuring paths of natural stones for walking and benches for resting along the shores. The site remains accessible year-round, though the water freezes in winter, making ice skating possible for visitors.
The pond hosts various waterfowl such as teal and gadwalls that nest and raise their young in the reed-covered sections on the southeastern side. For anglers, it offers fishing opportunities, while most visitors to the area overlook it, keeping it a quiet, hidden spot for those who know of it.
