Monument to Peter I, Bronze memorial in Senate Square, Saint Petersburg, Russia

The monument depicts Peter I mounted on a horse with an extended arm toward the Neva River, positioned on a massive Thunder Stone pedestal.

Catherine the Great commissioned French sculptor Étienne Maurice Falconet to create this monument, which was inaugurated on August 7, 1782.

The monument influenced Alexander Pushkin's 1833 narrative poem examining the relationship between state power and individual needs during natural disasters.

The statue stands 13 meters high and remains visible from multiple angles along the Senate Square and surrounding streets.

The Thunder Stone pedestal, weighing 1,250 tonnes, represents the largest stone ever moved by humans at the time of construction.
