Saint Anastasia Chapel, Chapel in Pskov, Russia.
Saint Anastasia Chapel is a chapel near the Olgin Bridge along the Velikaya River in Pskov, built with limestone walls and a reinforced concrete dome. The structure now functions as part of Pskov Open-Air Museum.
The original chapel was built in 1710 during an epidemic and reconstructed in 1911 by architect Alexei Shchusev at a higher location. This redesign reflected the need to relocate the structure to a new site.
The interior walls display frescoes by Nicholas Roerich that blend early Russian iconography with Orthodox Christian traditions. Visitors can see these artworks directly while exploring the chapel's space.
Visitors can reach the chapel by following the path along the Velikaya River. The structure is integrated into the Open-Air Museum grounds, so plan time to explore the surrounding area as well.
The chapel served various practical functions over the years, including as a ticket office and newsstand, before being restored to its status as a cultural monument. This repurposing shows how the building remained connected to daily life for many decades.
