Church of Saint Nicholas in Klyoniki

The Church of Saint Nicholas in Klyoniki is a brick building with five domes designed in the late Muscovite Baroque style. Its exterior walls feature small circular kokoshnik-type gables that give the structure its distinctive appearance.

A wooden chapel once stood at this location starting in 1401, but the current brick structure was built in stages between 1682 and 1694. This construction period reflects the architectural evolution that Moscow experienced during those decades.

The church functions as a gathering place where Orthodox believers come together to practice their faith through regular services. The space holds religious objects that reflect the spiritual life of this community.

The church is located on Maroseyka Street in the Basmanny District and is administered by the Moscow Eparchy. Visitors should be aware that services occur at set times and modest dress is expected when entering.

Father Pavel Lepekhin served as priest here from 1915 to 1960, making him one of the Orthodox clergy with the longest tenure during that turbulent era. His decades-long presence made this place a steady community anchor.
