Jabal Kasala, Mountain peak in Kassala, Sudan.

Jabal Kasala is a massive mountain in Kassala, eastern Sudan, with a flat-topped summit and steep rocky slopes that rise prominently above the surrounding plains. The massif consists of a complex arrangement of rock formations with numerous peaks grouped around the main elevation.

The mountain served as a navigation landmark for trade routes connecting Sudan and Eritrea, helping merchants find their way across the region. This geographical importance made it a recognized feature for traveling merchants and caravans moving through the area.

Local communities gather at the mountain's base for traditional meetings and religious celebrations that have shaped life in the region for generations. These occasions bring people together and connect them deeply to the surrounding landscape.

The best time to climb is from November through February, when weather conditions are more favorable and temperatures are mild. Visitors should prepare for uneven terrain and rocky surfaces, bringing appropriate footwear and gear suited to the season.

The mountain is part of a complex with more than two hundred peaks in the Kassala range, with the main summit standing out distinctly from the surrounding terrain. This array of rock formations creates a varied and dramatic mountain landscape.
